This reminds me of the dodgeball ban– the reasoning being that the game was “exclusionary” because once you were hit, you couldn’t come back in. That, and lawsuits from the parents of kids getting hurt. Please.
Sometimes you need to lose in order to drive yourself to do better. Sometimes you need to feel pain in order to learn.
Raising children to think that they’re all winners and that they never have to feel pain is going to turn them into overpriveleged sissies. As adults they’ll fall into the lawsuit-happy mentality of thinking that life actually owes them something.
Let me remind everyone that life owes you nothing. What you want out of life– the happiness you desire– you must make for yourself. And sometimes that requires a few scars.

Yes, some (maybe all) of my opinions are rough around the edges.
Remember, though, that the focus of this entry was on the adults (school administrators, parents) that are coming up with these “no dodgeball” and “no tag” rules. They’re the ones that think you need to be protected from yourselves. They’re the ones that doubt that you can succeed on your own.
Also, don’t take this entry to heart– the news article was about elementary-school kids.
