Every time you hear or read the phrase “government subsidized _____ “, translate it into “the government took your money, your family’s money, and your friends’ money, and decided to spend it on _____ “. If, after doing that, you’re not annoyed, then consider yourself a communist.
The government doesn’t make money. It simply takes the money that you have earned and redistributes it as it pleases. Once in a while you do benefit– some of you might’ve taken out a ’subsidized’ student loan. But most of the time your tax money gets spent on tons of crap that you don’t use. I say, let people keep their money. Let people take home their gross pay instead of their net pay. Let them take care of themselves. Let them spend their money on whatever they want.

I wonder how many of my New York friends realize that they pay about 60 cents per gallon in gas taxes (about 18 cents Federal and 42 cents State).
Let’s say you pay $2.50/gallon–
Essentially, you’re paying a base price of $1.90/gallon for the gas and then adding a 30% sales tax.

So the next time you hear someone’s idea about raising taxes on gas, you’ll know to regard the idea as ridiculous.
