Rush Limbaugh: Morality, Liberalism

.
If there are no ultimate standards of behavior that descend from God, and if morality is merely an individual choice, then life itself has lost its greater meaning.  It’s no big deal for you to take a gun to school and shoot some kid over a dispute about a leather jacket or a pair of sneakers.  That is precisely what an overly permissive, excessively tolerant, nothing-is-wrong attitude leads to.  Of course, liberals will argue that these actions can be laid at the foot of socioeconomic inequalities, or poverty.  However, the Great Depression caused a level of poverty unknown to exist in America today, and yet I have been unable to find any accounts of crime waves sweeping our large cities.  In fact, I can’t find reliable information that even documents a noticeable increase in crime, period, during the Great Depression.  Let the liberals chew on that.
Regardless of what you call them, they don’t see the connection — or pretend they don’t.  So anyone who publicly expresses concern for decency in our society invites assault.  Any expression of concern for solid values is mocked and ridiculed.  The thought that there should be standards of behavior and accountability in all walks of life is portrayed as absurd.
Why do they react that way?  They take the offensive because deep down they know they’re wrong.  They know they’re engaging in activity that is base.  In many cases, they are simply hedonists.  They won’t accept any limits on personal behavior whatsoever.  That’s what freedom means to them:  no responsibility, no consequences for anything.  It’s whatever feels good.  That is the underlying dimension of most of the aberrant behavior going on in America today.
Liberalism is the political ideology that adds legitimacy and credence to these aberrant behaviors.  It says:  “People have been victimized and oppressed in America and they are forced to act this way.”  Liberals excuse bad behavior.  They rationalize it.  And they act as the unholy choir to denounce as religious extremists decent people who call attention to it.

If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal,” then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.” -JFK

“Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.” -JFK

Given how many times I’ve heard modern liberals call for their health care to be provided by the government, their education to be paid for by the government, their housing to be subsidized by the government… It seems to me that today’s “liberals” have little in common with what John F. Kennedy deemed “liberal” when he was president.

Classical liberalism is just fine by me. Liberals of the Kennedy era were willing to stand up for free market capitalism and the civil rights of people abroad. Modern liberalism is misguided. Today’s liberals are generally socialists who are unwilling to stand up to totalitarian (often communist) regimes that trample civil rights. They are NOT practicing what JFK preached.

Sorry we care about spending tax dollars on things within the country…

It’s better than being today’s “conservative” whom only cares about fear, hatred, and ignorance.
They make people FEAR the country will fall apart in democratic hands, cause Bush and Bush did sooo well…
Then FEAR that terrorism will take over the world without republicans in charge, I don’t remember a single “war” during the Clinton years…yet 2 during father and son.

It’s the stereotypical racists and homophobes that will vote republican and continue to HATE.

and IGNORANCE… base all arguments around “god” (ie. abortion, civil rights, war, education)

and Rush does nothing but spin hate and fear.

    ~peace.

  4. Count Mazz Says:

    You are dead wrong.

Conservatism is about personal responsibility, smaller government, respecting the rule of law, promoting democracy, and devotion to God & country, among other things. We fear turning over our well-being to our government, we hate the evil that terrorists do, and we ignore people who are more interested in name-calling than actually having a discussion.

The first World Trade Center bombing took place under Clinton. The attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania took place under Clinton. The bombing of the U.S.S. Cole took place under Clinton. President Clinton saw Al Qaeda terrorism and did little about it. President Bush took the fight to the terrorists in the Middle East. He deserves credit for that.

If you think I’m racist or homophobic, then you need to read more of my writing and re-evaluate your opinion.

My arguments, while thoroughly conservative, are generally based on reasoning -without- a need to invoke God-based morality. If need be, I defer to Judeo-Christian principles followed by our founding fathers.

Contrary to your take on the situation, Rush Limbaugh speaks a lot of common sense and truth, and he is fair to those he disagrees with.

If you want to deconstruct the things he and I say, be my guest. Argue on my blog with facts. If all you’re going to do is attach labels and say that we’re ignorant, then don’t bother leaving any more comments here.

  5. kc2 Says:

ok, minus our own ‘terrorists’ (unibomber, OK City, etc)…
number of US soldiers/citizens killed from war or terrorism during Clinton – about 250

number of US soldiers/citizens killed from war or terrorism during W. – about 7,800+

    FACT

  6. Count Mazz Says:

So, what does that prove? You’re comparing death tolls for two entirely different ways of dealing with attacks on American citizens.

There’s no reason to believe that 9/11 wouldn’t have happened under a Democratic president. Would he not have retaliated with our military? Would he not have declared state sponsors of terrorism as enemies of the United States?

Our president can’t let innocent Americans die for nothing.

When we sit around and do nothing about terrorism, victims of terrorist attacks die for no good reason. When good people fight back against such evil, they die fighting for their country and for the cause of freedom.
